What’s new?

Posted February 17th, 2012 in Uncategorized by Sarah Watkins

We thought that this image was a great one for our blog, it says so much about what we do, taking old bits of unusable furniture and recycling it into new pieces!
It’s also very satisfying smashing up a wardrobe, we recommend it for a stressful day at the office!

Reclaiming some old pine

destroying old wood for new beginnings

We’ve had some great new things in recently, these lovely old crates have turned up, they’re really useful things, we recently visited a show where they were lined, filled with soil and they had some spring bulbs coming up, they look great, a good one for Easter!

These fabulous old chairs also turned up this week, they were reclaimed from an old hall in Sheffield that use to host snooker championships, the leather on them shows what a classic piece it is.

We’ve added to our range of Oak bar stools, we’ve just got these in this week, they add a slightly more contemporary edge to the range.

Kitchen Islands & Seating

Posted January 11th, 2012 in Uncategorized by Sarah Watkins

Nearly every kitchen we design has a kitchen island as the central focus, and most of the islands have overhangs for seating which works so well in open plan kitchens. This has led us on a quest to have a definitive collection of bar stools for the islands, we now have a range that suits most tastes and budgets, for more information visit our ‘Chair & Seating’ section on the website.

Upcycle for 2012

Posted December 14th, 2011 in Uncategorized by Sarah Watkins

The trendy word on the net at the moment seems to be “upcycling” and with all the current economic problems it’s good to see the nation is reverting to a “make do and mend” approach.

Upcycling is all old news to us, we’ve been re using materials since we started 20 years ago, our unique look has evolved by re using old wood which has an aged look that can never be created from new wood, it has evolved from years of use,  and has a homeliness that is truly unique to every piece.

To see more of our unique items click on the furniture section on the website www.eastburncountryfurniture.co.uk

To strip or not to strip!

Posted November 17th, 2011 in Uncategorized by Sarah Watkins

These blanket boxes are over 120 years old, they have this lovely original paint effect on them. We would normally put these straight into the stripping tank but we think they should stay as they are, we’d like your opinion on whether “to strip or not to strip”.

Good for Gifts

Posted November 2nd, 2011 in Uncategorized by Sarah Watkins

We often find at Eastburn Country Furniture that some of the smaller curios we sell get lost amongst the larger pieces of furniture, and as it’s getting to that time of year when everyones looking for unusual gifts we thought we’d showcase our favourites.

This hand carved fruit bowl displays seasonal fruit and works well on tables with assorted hand made breads. Our old mixing bowls have all the vintage charm for mixing christmas cakes, and the old rolling pins work well for rolling out christmas cake icing.

We stock so many more unusual gifts that will add bags of vintage charm to any home or Christmas table.

Old Antique Wooden Doors

Posted October 22nd, 2011 in Uncategorized by Sarah Watkins

We recently acquired these beautiful old doors, some are over 200 years old, they have come from an old house that is being renovated. In the process of the renovation the council planners have insisted that the doors were removed and replaced with fire doors, it’s really unfortunate that the old building can’t keep it’s originality because of regulations.
