Good for Gifts

Posted November 2nd, 2011 in Uncategorized by Sarah Watkins

We often find at Eastburn Country Furniture that some of the smaller curios we sell get lost amongst the larger pieces of furniture, and as it’s getting to that time of year when everyones looking for unusual gifts we thought we’d showcase our favourites.

This hand carved fruit bowl displays seasonal fruit and works well on tables with assorted hand made breads. Our old mixing bowls have all the vintage charm for mixing christmas cakes, and the old rolling pins work well for rolling out christmas cake icing.

We stock so many more unusual gifts that will add bags of vintage charm to any home or Christmas table.

Old Antique Wooden Doors

We recently acquired these beautiful old doors, some are over 200 years old, they have come from an old house that is being renovated. In the process of the renovation the council planners have insisted that the doors were removed and replaced with fire doors, it’s really unfortunate that the old building can’t keep it’s originality because of regulations.

Going the extra mile!

Posted September 21st, 2011 in Uncategorized by Sarah Watkins

We think we’ve gone the extra mile with our furniture this week, around 3,000 to be exact. Loads of our furniture has been packed up and shipped off to one of customers in America, we thought we’d share the picture we took of the container being loaded onto the lorry just before it left for the ferry, it was a massive effort getting everything ready and packed but we made it. With such an amount going at once it’s left lots of space for us to put some new pieces into the showroom.

Chair Mountain

Posted September 10th, 2011 in Uncategorized by Sarah Watkins

‘Chair Mountain’ resides in Colorado at 12,721 feet, and although our Yorkshire version doesn’t quite go to that altitude, we think our ‘mountain of chairs’ is a good rival.

Our customers are always astonished when they come across our mountain in the mill, we have so many styles and ages of chairs it’s almost a catalogue of a bygone era.

We are putting all our chairs on the website, although as fast as we put them on they sell so it’s best to visit us or call for recent stock.

Delicious Deli

Posted September 1st, 2011 in Uncategorized by Sarah Watkins

We recently visited Delicious Deli Cafe which is run by Sharon and Maxine. We made a bespoke kitchen for Maxine a few years ago, and when she decided to start a deli in Gisburn, she very kindly called on our services again to help kit the shop out to give it a warm homely feel that would make it the hub of the community which it has dutifully become.

The lovely old building use to be the Post Office, which was always well used by the local community, this relationship has been renewed in Sharon and Maxine’s deli, the locals all regularly use the cafe and feel it’s not just a meeting place but a centre of the community.

We supplied this lovely rustic old bookcase which customers use as a mini library

The reclaimed wooden counter we supplied was an original antique, the front is open for displaying goods and the area at the back of the counter also has storage

This lovely wooden display unit looks great in a deli but would work equally well in a kitchen

We’ve added some more photos below of another project we’ve just completed, this dresser has added extra storage to the kitchen without the need for bulky wall cabinets which would date the look, the dresser gives a stylish edge that will last.

Our latest kitchen

Wooden kitchen from Eastburn Country Furniture

Eastburn Kitchen

We thought we’d share our latest kitchen creation with you, this lovely light kitchen has been fitted with solid wood units and a beautiful solid oak worktop.

We’ve created this open wall cabinet with natural wood backboards, we think it gives the kitchen a more informal sense of styling. The old wood island also gives the kitchen more personality and warmth.

The kitchen was painted Joa’s white and given a light distressing.

The kitchen island is made from reclaimed timber, it gives a good contrast against the joa’s white painted units.

We created this distressed feel by using reclaimed timber on the units, we added beading around the doors to add to the reclaimed feel.

The units were hand painted to keep the style rustic.

We finished the units off with gunmetal ball and cup handles, the heavy industrial quality matches the style well and gives an interesting vintage edge.

Our back showroom at Eastburn is looking really good at the moment, we have a mass of very individual pieces some very old and rustic and some very new.

Our storage baskets and old apple boxes are great for going under kitchen islands, they conveniently get rid of all the clutter that were all guilty of accumulating.

Trugs are also a great handy kitchen item, we use them for storing everything from soap to dried lavender, they’re even good for presenting bread and olives when your eating alfresco.

Lavender trugs

Staying on the alfresco theme we thought this lovely old centre island wouldn’t be out of place in a rustic french farmhouse, you can just imagine preparing your garlic ready for the ”soupe de poisson” whilst the sun beats down on the patio.

Eastburn vintage spice

We all love these vintage indian chapati rollers and rolling boards that have made an appearance in the mill this week, the colours are great and the chapati boards are really heavy with a beautiful patina to them, we think they look good sat on these vintage chopping boards.

We’ve recently acquired these lovely tin coffee pots, you can imagine sitting on a barge sipping strong black coffee whilst watching the sun setting.

We also love these cow bells, although a little unusual we think they work well in a kitchen, they are completely unique great if you prefer something different from the norm! You wont find these in John Lewis!

Dough cabinet

Old dough riser cabinet

At Eastburn we do find that all our range is slightly unusual, we love the quirky look that old furniture has, and every so often we find a real gem, and this dough cupboard is one such gem. It dates from around the 18th century and would have been used to rise the dough in bakeries, it’s unfinished at the moment but when we’ve repaired and re-finished it we think it will look amazing, when it’s finished we’ll post a picture on the blog. We’ve also discovered a very old book hidden inside a chest of drawers that we bought recently, it’s traditional household hints and tips are vintage inspired, and our handy hint is: “to prevent cakes burning in the oven, place a pie dish full of water on the bottom shelf and the pie will bake through without burning. I only wish I had time to bake!
Wooden reclaimed table

Reclaimed wood table

We love this rustic table and benches, they have just the right look, they look equally good in an old farmhouse or a sleek mill conversion, the benches also sell well for hallways and boot rooms, the robust nature of the old wood makes the look timeless.
